We began working with Fox Williams in 2009 and one of the first objectives was to build PR profile around the firm’s leading Partnership practice. A big part of our own rationale for setting up Byfield in 2007 was to take advantage of the opportunities thrown-up by the Legal Services Act (LSA). Working closely together, we produced the ‘Big Bang’ report which looked at the threats and opportunities under the Act and was launched in November 2009. We arranged a Panel discussion of leading industry figures to launch the research with over 100 attendees. The report achieved extensive media coverage and over 1,000 downloads from the Byfield website. And it is still referred to today as one of the most accessible and comprehensive guides to the LSA.
We followed this report with our most recent piece of research for Fox Williams in June this year, entitled ABSolutely Fabulous? The report looked at the appetite for Alternative Business Structures (ABSs) amongst 100 commercial law firms and their role in a changing legal market. Again, the research was launched with a Panel discussion of leading industry figures including; George Bull, Head of Professional Services at Baker Tilly, Neil Kinsella, Chief Executive of Russell Jones & Walker (part of Slater & Gordon Lawyers), Steve Arundale, RBS, Adam Shutkever, Riverview Law and Anthony Bellau, Sovereign Capital.
We have secured 15 pieces of media coverage around the report to date (with more to come), including an exclusive in the business section of The Times on the day the report was launched, Accountancy Age, The Lawyer and other key corporate and legal specialist publications. Alongside the PR we have achieved around the thought leadership research, we have also achieved good media coverage around stories in the news about Partnership issues. For example, Fox Williams’ Managing Partner quoted in The Times commenting on Slater & Gordon’s acquisition of Russell, Jones & Walker and the Guardian commenting on the expansion of the Co-op’s legal team.
As a result of the thought leadership and general profile raising we have undertaken for Fox Williams, the firm’s profile as a leading Partnership practice has heightened and the Partnership team have developed a number of relationships with new clients, intermediaries, the media and other key influencers important to its business development.
