International Oil Field Dispute

Ghana_oil_Field

Byfield acted in a multi-million dollar Middle East oilfield dispute involving legal action in the High Court in London, the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords and the European Court of Human Rights. The case, which centred on allegations of breach of contract, also involved spin-off legal action in various other jurisdictions in relation to Mareva injunctions (freezing orders), anti-suit injunctions and associated matters.

Byfield’s role was to ensure that the client’s voice was heard and that reporting of the dispute was accurate and fair. We attended Court when required and handled all media enquiries on behalf of our client.

We liaised with national UK newspaper journalists and media organisations as well as international and foreign news outlets. Importantly, we also worked very closely with journalists in the specialist trade press covering the oil and gas sector who took a particular interest in the case as it progressed.

The case itself has been subject of numerous law reports and, because of its complex nature, has been closely followed by the legal community and those interested in evolving case law.
